Persistent Identifier

Persistent identifiers (PIDs) are a key foundation for sustainable research data management: They ensure that research data, publications, and other digital research objects can be permanently, uniquely, and reliably located, linked, and cited-even when storage locations, systems, or responsibilities change.

The IG PID provides a forum for discussion on the use, implementation, and strategic importance of persistent identifiers. Which PID types and services are suitable for which use cases? How can PIDs be integrated into existing workflows, repositories, and research infrastructures? What standards and recommendations already exist, and where are there still open questions or a need for joint action? Practical experiences, technical challenges, and questions regarding the sustainable integration of PID strategies within institutions can also be discussed collectively.

The exchange of experiences and best practices, in particular, offers significant added value: Together, solutions can be developed, lessons can be learned from one another, and synergies between institutions can be leveraged.
