More than just data – research data management in research funding

FDM-SH DatenHorizonte presents: More than just data – Research data management in research funding

Date: May 13, 2025 , 18:00 – 19:30
Registration: not required

The topic of research data has gained considerable importance in recent years, as illustrated by numerous relevant projects and the emergence of overarching initiatives at regional, national and European level. In addition to stakeholders from research, infrastructure and politics, research funding institutions such as the German Research Foundation (DFG) are also addressing the topic.

Research data plays a role in the DFG’s funding activities at various levels. Its importance extends far beyond the pure proposal business, as illustrated by the fact that research data is addressed several times in the DFG Code Guidelines for Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice. Like other sectors, research funding is also confronted with the challenge that not only practices, standards and technologies in the field of research data are constantly evolving, but also the broad spectrum of user communities and their respective needs. All of this means that work with research data is increasingly involving other fields of work (such as artificial intelligence methods) and areas of society, for example commercial enterprises, public institutions, cultural organisations and medical care facilities. Research funding organisations must also take such developments into account.

Using the DFG as an example, the planned presentation offers an insight into the topic of research data in the funding activities of research funding organisations. To this end, it will outline the background to dealing with the topic, describe current fields of action and provide an outlook on future challenges in Schleswig-Holstein and in an (inter)national context.

You do not need to register for this presentation; you can also decide for yourself whether you would like to attend the format on site or virtually via Zoom.

In addition to this page, the lecture can also be found in the programme of DiWo Kiel via this link.
