Setting Sail for the Future: FDM-SH Reach-Out Embarks on Digitalisation Program 4.0
Published on: February 26, 2025
The RDM Initiative for the State of Schleswig-Holstein (FDM-SH) is gaining momentum with successful funding from the State Chancellery of Schleswig-Holstein as part of the Digitalisation Program 4.0.

Sustainable management of research data has long become a beacon for quality-oriented, digital research. However, the demands on modern research data management (RDM) are high and require coordinated efforts: research institutions and universities face the challenge of managing this complex and ongoing transformation process on their own. The foundations for the state initiative were already laid in the Digitalisation Program 3.0 — creating a community of research institutions, universities, and colleges in Schleswig-Holstein that, through collaborative engagement, develop strategies to implement modern research data management locally while sharing knowledge and resources.
Until December 2026, the FDM-SH Reach-Out project will bring new stakeholders on board to further strengthen the community. The goal is to establish a robust and widely recognised foundation for joint third-party funding applications, enhance connections with the state administration, and open up new collaborations—with cultural institutions, businesses, and other RDM initiatives from across Germany. With the strong support of this funding, FDM-SH is charting a course towards a sustainable and interconnected research data landscape that can meet the dynamic challenges of science and digitalisation.
We are grateful for this renewed support, which enables the continued sustainable development of research data infrastructure in Schleswig-Holstein. We also extend our sincere thanks to the members of the FDM-SH community for their outstanding commitment—without which this success would not have been possible.
