FAIRify your OER Workshop: Recap
Published on: October 14, 2026
How can educational materials remain discoverable, accessible, and reusable over the long term? Participants in a workshop on Open Educational Resources (OER) and the FAIR principles explored this question.

The session began with an introduction to the basics of OER. During a group discussion, participants shared their experiences with creating and reusing instructional materials. They also discussed challenges such as unresolved usage rights, quality assurance issues, and technical hurdles. The discussion then turned to the FAIR principles and the importance of metadata, appropriate file formats, and open licenses for long-term reuse.
During the hands-on session, participants applied the first steps of a presented workflow to their own teaching materials. They recorded metadata, identified missing information, and discussed in small groups how to fill these gaps.
The concluding discussion focused primarily on the practicality of the workflow. It became clear that the amount of effort involved is assessed differently depending on the area of application and available resources. Another topic was the question of how to make teaching materials not only accessible but also editable and adaptable for further development. In this context, the possibilities and limitations of Moodle (https://moodle.org), H5P (https://h5p.org/), Git-based systems, and Markdown.
